Cosmogoniesvers les étoiles

Note of intent

Download the booklet

Under the sky of “Cosmogonies,” the Adastra Quartet explores our need for origins and infinity. Between Étienne Haan's creation, Xu Yi's Taoist visions, and Sophie Lacaze's stellar landscapes, the quartet weaves a journey where myth and science respond to each other, from the infinitely small to the infinitely large.

At the heart of the program, Étienne Haan's Cosmogonies (created in 2025) imagines, in several tableaux, as many births of the world: benevolent, strange, sometimes playful or paralyzing. The sound material flows from a fusion block to a solitary trajectory, like expanding celestial bodies, until it plays with space itself and the dramaturgy of movement.

In resonance, Xu Yi leads us Vers le Vide parfait (Towards Perfect Emptiness, a 2024 state commission): a path of clarity, impermanence, and openness inspired by Taoist thought, where listening becomes breathing and inner vision. Sophie Lacaze offers two complementary perspectives: Les Instantanés, seven musical haikus in which the sea, moon, and fireflies sparkle, and De la Terre à Himalia, a short diptych guided by planetary “sounds.”

An invitation to think about the ecology of our place: connecting the tiny and the immense.
